EDUCATION:

1967 - B.A. (Magnum Cum Laude,  Phi Beta Kappa) in ANTHROPOLOGY, University of Missouri

1977 - M.A. in ART HISTORY/ARCHAEOLOGY with an emphasis in LATE ROMAN/EARLY CHRISTIAN ART AND ARCHITECTURE and ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY , University of Missouri, Columbia, MO.

1980 - STUDY ABROAD - Selected after national competition as one of ten Americans to attend the course in ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATION at the UNESCO Rome Centre (ICCROM) (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) in Rome, Italy. This was a six month international seminar in theory and practical methods of historic building conservation and stabilization with the city of Rome as our laboratory. A certificate of course completion was earned.

1983 - PREMIER DIPLÔME CULINAIRE from the Parisian Kitchen Cooking School, Tucson, Arizona.

1984-85 – Intensive course in SCIENTIFIC ILLUSTRATION AND PHOTOGRAPHY University of Arizona, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. (2 semesters)

OCCUPATIONS (many held concurrently):

1966 - MEMBER, University of Missouri team excavating the Utz Site at Miami, Missouri, an American Indian campsite for basic archaeological training in American techniques.

1967 - MEMBER, Duke University team excavating Victorian, Medieval and Roman levels at Wolvesey Palace, Winchester, England for basic archaeological training in European techniques.

1969 - MEMBER, University of Pennsylvania team excavating the ruins of ancient Gordion at Yassihüyük, Turkey. Duties included conservation of bronzes and pottery.

1971-77 - ARCHAEOLOGICAL ASSISTANT (Technical Illustrator and Conservator) for the Corpus of Ancient Mosaics of Tunisia Project (CAMT) of the Smithsonian Institution working at many ancient Roman sites around Tunisia studying mosaic pavements.

(1976 – present) TOUR PLANNER, LECTURER AND ESCORT for the American Museum of Natural History, the Archaeological Institute of America and other groups on over 30 tours and cruises all around the Mediterranean for archaeologists, private individuals and other groups.

1977-1981 - HISTORIC LANDMARK ARCHITECTURE SPECIALIST for the Department of Natural Resources of the State of Missouri. Duties included lecturing to student and civic groups throughout the State of Missouri ; selecting important architectural landmarks throughout the state for inclusion on a list of State Historic Sites; research and preparation of nomination forms for the National Register of Historic Places ;recording of historic buildings and research into selected topics for publication in local journals (see Publications).

1977-1990 - TECHNICAL ILLUSTRATOR for archaeological excavations sponsored by the University of Arizona, the University of Missouri and the Oriental Institute, University of Chicago at Idalion and Kourion, Cyprus; Mirobriga, Portugal; Carthage, Tunisia; and Lugnano in Teverina, Italy.

1981-82 – BUILDING/HOUSING INSPECTOR (HOUSING CONSERVATION OFFICER) for the City of Columbia, Missouri.

1983-84 - LECTURER for Elder Hostel, University of Arizona. Subjects included Northern Italian Cuisine (with a demonstration of pasta making), Understanding French Wines, A Basic Guide to Consumerism and Shopping for Food.

1983-84 - LECTURER / TEACHER on gourmet cooking at the Parisian Kitchen Cooking School, Tucson, AZ. During this period I also ran my own catering business, THE PAMPERED PALATE. (See "Backyard Herbs Fill the Bill", Arizona Daily Star, Lifestyle section front page, 28 September, 1983 for an article about by classes).

1986-89 - PHOTO LAB TEACHING ASSISTANT to D.B. Sayner in his intensive course, Scientific Illustration and Photography, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona

1986 – present - EXCAVATION PHOTOGRAPHER for the University of Arizona archaeological excavations in Kourion, Cyprus; Lugnano in Teverina, Italy and Chianciano Terme, Italy

1987 - UNIT MANAGER for the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) video production, Carthage: A Mirage of Antiquity, produced by the American Museum of Natural History in New York and KUAT-TV, Tucson. The video was shown nationally on 56 PBS stations.

Our archaeological work currently in Chianciano Terme, Italy; the pre-Christian topography of the Vatican area; theaters and motion picture houses by the Boller Brothers architectural firm, 1903-1958; Ladies' compacts and vanities – collecting them and researching their histories.

OTHER INTERESTS:

Photography; gourmet international cookery, especially Italian; history and preservation of American architecture and especially of movie palaces of the 1920s; collecting Berber clothing and jewelry of North Africa, and fine vintage ladies' compacts; antiques; travel in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East; the topography of ancient Rome; time, entropy, entanglement, Higgs boson, string theory and quantum gravity; comets, asteroids and catastrophes; walking (4-5 miles a day); and 9-11 facts and fantasies.
